Facial Gua Sha

Did you know that Gua Sha is a natural healing modality that has been practiced in China for over 700 years. It was used originally to cleanse the body of toxins and help the chi or life force energy flow through the body, ensuring good health and well-being.

The healing practice became known in the United States in the 70’s and 80’s with the influx of immigrants from China and Southeast Asia.

As with many alternative medical practices that have beneficial results, its use was expanded to include the facial muscles. The results, verified by several studies, show improvement in skin quality by boosting blood circulation and increasing lymphatic drainage. The result is healthier skin that is more toned.

Facial Gua Sha, once learned from a trained practitioner, can be done at home several times a week to increase a youthful, healthy appearance. It’s the original self-care practice.

Gua sha is safe, however facial gua sha does have a few contraindications or times when you should not practice. Don’t use gua sha over broken skin, acne, sunburns, or if you have a bleeding disorder or are on blood thinners. Always check with your doctor if you are concerned or have any questions.
