How I found Thai massage
I was a yoga teacher, who after years of teaching large group classes, wanted to try to work one on one with my students.
I saw restrictions in their bodies. And I saw these tension and pain patterns over and over again.I wanted to figure out how I could help each student individually, not just in large group classes. I started researching for more in depth study and came across Thai Yoga massage online. It sounded interesting but I had never experienced it and didn’t know anyone who was offering it locally. I fantasized about taking an extensive workshop in Montreal but my life with a young child was so busy… So, I thought I'd go into yoga therapy since yoga was what I knew And that was the way I worked with people. So I started taking yoga therapy classes, & I really enjoyed the classes. It was in one of those classes that I got hooked on anatomy. I took this great class with a Physical Therapist as the teacher on functional anatomy, it was marvelous.
Somewhere around that class, a friend of mine was taking Thai massage training, and she needed to practice. So she asked me if I would be willing to let her practice Thai massage on me. I said, Sure, why not? I thought it would be great to try a Thai massage and see what it was about. And during that Thai massage, I was just blown away. Here was this woman who was a student, and this was one of her practice sessions and I loved it. I thought, Wow, this is what I need to learn. So we talked about Thai massage and her training. And I realized that was the way I wanted to go, I thought maybe bodywork is the answer.
And so the thought formed “I'll be a massage therapist and practice Thai massage”. It took a few years, but that seed was planted.
